Sustainability, the Foundation of Everything We Do
At Bluewater Adventures, our connection to the ocean and wild spaces shapes who we are. Earth Day is a meaningful reminder that exploring the BC and Alaska coastlines comes with responsibility—and that sustainability isn’t a separate initiative, but the foundation of how we operate, guide, and share the coast with our guests.
Our commitment to protecting the environment goes beyond words. It’s embedded in our daily decisions, our partnerships, and the way we invite our guests to experience the natural world with care, curiosity, and respect.
Built on Responsible Operations & Relationships
Every adventure we offer depends on healthy ecosystems and thriving wildlife. That’s why, for 52 memorable years, sustainability has been at the core of our operations—from planning and logistics to trip execution and long‑term strategy.
We actively work to:
- Minimize environmental impact through responsible trip planning
- Follow best practices for wildlife viewing and marine protection
- Reduce waste and improve efficiency both on the water and in the office
- Support conservation through partnerships and certifications
- We actively contribute to the removal of marine debris along the BC coast
- Through our school programs we build and deliver experiential education that is founded on leaving no trace, visiting with respect, and regenerative travel
- We hold Protocol Agreements with Coastal First Nations permitting operations in their Traditional Territories and we work with local Coast First Nation Guides when in their community
These choices allow us to continue sharing unforgettable experiences while protecting the environments that make them possible.
Proud Members of 1% for the Planet
As members of 1% for the Planet, Bluewater Adventures commits to giving back to environmental causes that directly support the health of our oceans and coastal ecosystems.
This commitment means:
- A portion of our revenue is dedicated to environmental non-profit, and coastal communities
- Our success directly contributes to local conservation efforts
- Sustainability remains central to our business model—not an afterthought
Through this membership, every adventure our guests take helps support organizations working to protect the regions we explore, and the communities we operate from
Committed to Green Tourism
Our participation in Green Tourism reflects our dedication to continuous improvement and accountability in sustainable travel.
Green Tourism provides guidance and standards that help us:
- Measure and reduce our environmental footprint via Carbon Hound and purchase Offsets through Great Bear Carbon
- Operate more responsibly as a tourism provider
-
Align our practices with global sustainability goals
By choosing to work within recognized sustainability frameworks, we challenge ourselves to do better—today and into the future.
Dedicated to Ethical Wildlife Viewing
Wildlife encounters are powerful, emotional, and unforgettable—but they must always be handled with care.
As members of the Commercial Bear Viewing Association of BC (CBVABC), we follow strict, science‑based guidelines designed to protect bears and their habitats while ensuring safe, ethical viewing experiences.
This membership ensures:
- All Bluewater crew are Bear Viewing Guide Certified
- Respectful distances and non‑intrusive viewing practices
- Wildlife‑first decision‑making
- Long‑term conservation of bear populations
Our goal is not just to see wildlife—but to minimize our impacts on wildlife while in their presence – respecting an animal’s need to forage, rest, or travel.
Sharing Sustainability with Our Guests
Sustainability is a thread woven through our entire culture—it’s something we actively share with every guest who joins us on the water.
We do this by:
- Explaining why we operate the way we do
- Participating in mindful wildlife observation
- Sharing knowledge about local ecosystems and conservation efforts
- Leading by example through respectful, low‑impact adventuring
We believe the most meaningful learning happens through experience. When guests understand the “why” behind our practices, they leave not only with memories, but with a deeper appreciation for wildlife and wellness of the planet on a greater scale.
Earth Day, Every Day
Earth Day is a chance to celebrate the beauty of the places we explore—but also a reminder of our responsibility to protect them.
At Bluewater Adventures, sustainability is far more than a one‑day focus. It’s the foundation of our operations, our relationships, our partnerships, and our guest experiences. Together with our community, we’re committed to exploring responsibly—so these wild places remain wild for generations to come.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
