How to Be Our Best
While Bluewater strives to provide unique and memorable travel experiences, it is important that we carry out our operations in the most sustainable and low-impact way possible.
As visitors, we want to show our care for the land, respect for the wildlife, and that we value the history of the Indigenous people who have lived here for millennia.
Some Simple Guidelines We Follow
Things that make a difference.
Slow Travel
By implementing a maximum travel speed while motoring, our vessels burn less fuel, thereby reducing our carbon footprint.
Travel Under Sail
Traveling under wind power, or wind assist, allows us to reduce fuel usage even more!
Meals Served Family Style
Our beautifully prepared meals are served family style, where guests can serve themselves, reducing food waste.
We Provision Locally
We purchase locally sourced foods whenever possible and prefer to support small businesses along the coast during our operational season.
Work with Coastal First Nations
Bluewater Adventures highlights Indigenous Resource Guides, providing a more immersive understanding of their history and culture.
Responsible Wildlife Viewing
Bluewater follows strict wildlife viewing practices to mitigate potential impacts to their natural behaviours.
Sustainable Travel
A Pioneer in Sustainable Tourism
Bluewater Adventures was built on the principles of ecotourism even before the term was coined. Sustainability and conservation is at the core of how we carry out our operations, engage with guests, and how we train our incredible crew.

Things the Bluewater Traveler Can Do
There are some simple ways that you can participate in sustainable travel. Whether it is buying local or offsetting your flights, every effort counts.
Supporting Local and Small Businesses
By supporting small local businesses, we are contributing to the local economy. When visiting museums and cultural centres, there may be some great opportunities to invest in one of a kind works by local carvers and artisans.
Learn About Local Customs
In Haida, it is Yahgudaang. In the Tshimshian language, Sm’algya̱x, it is Loomsk. For the Kwakwaka’wakw, it is Maya’xala. These are all words for respect.
As visitors we want to interact with locals in a respectful manner, be mindful of local customs, and be willing to learn about different perspectives. We value the history and place of Indigenous people who have lived here for millennia.
Reduce, Conserve, Respect
Consider ways to reduce your carbon footprint by opting for transportation with lower emissions, offsetting your flight, and travelling light. Conserve resources by being mindful of water usage, and bring a reusable water bottle and shopping bag.
Your Bluewater crew will provide you with guidance before going ashore, but we can take steps to respect nature like staying on marked trails, and “take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints”.
Donate Eco-Consciously
Sustainable travel isn’t just about taking photographs and creating great memories, it is also about giving back. During all Bluewater Adventures, guests will learn about organizations that work hard to conserve our coast and who look to us for our support.
Bluewater Adventures actively supports several non-profits, and we are happy to share information on how guests can also contribute.
