What to Expect

Preparedness lets the landscape and wildlife moments on your expedition be the only unknowns to unfold. Discover what it’s like to be a Bluewater guest

Day in the Life

Anything But A Typical Day

While we purposefully leave all of our trip itineraries open for interpretation by our captains to capitalize on great weather and wildlife viewing, our days onboard frequently follow the same sort of flow.

Morning

Good morning Pacific ocean! Mornings offer a great opportunity for the early riser or keen boater to head out for a misty morning kayak paddle. Depending on our destination, captains may raise anchor before breakfast is served to get a jump on the day!

Gathering for a hot and hearty breakfast expertly crafted by our amazing chefs, captains share the plans for the morning with guests outlining when they need to be ready for the day’s first shore excursion. Beachcombing for intertidal life, walking through a historic village site, or traipsing through the mossy undergrowth of the rainforest are all possibilities to kickstart the day.

Mid-Day

Returning from the morning’s adventures for a gourmet lunch, the boat is most likely underway. As crew explain what we are passing and the species that you may see flying, swimming, or walking near the vessel, guests should always keep their binoculars handy. If we see something of interest, which is highly likely with our expert crew, we will stop or slow down to enjoy it – we are never in a hurry.

After lunch, a second shore excursion is likely, potentially off to a forested bear stand to look for grizzly or black bears feeding on salmon, or for a rejuvenating dip in naturally-fed hot springs.

Evening

Guests can anticipate dropping anchor in a secluded and protected cove to overnight. Once at anchor, there may be the opportunity to paddle around and get up close and personal with the rocky shoreline. Crew will pour guests a glass of wine before everyone tucks in for the final meal of the day. After dinner, there may be some downtime to unwind and enjoy the scenery.

Before turning in for the night, captains will take guests through a ‘chart talk.’ Bringing out a large nautical chart of the coast, skippers will walk through where the group has travelled that day. Afterward, our naturalists will discuss all the species seen that day, big and small, recording them all on a trip-long ‘species list.’ Get some final notes from the captain on morning expectations—maybe it’s an early rise for some bear viewing, maybe kayaking is on offer—before getting some much needed rest in anticipation of another spectacular day.
